Healthline Media Hires Faye McCray as Editor-in-Chief of PsychCentral.com

Top Digital Health Publisher Adds to Editorial Leadership

SAN FRANCISCO — January 12, 2021 — Healthline Media, America’s number one digital health publisher, has appointed Faye McCray as Editor-in-Chief of PsychCentral.com, the latest addition to the company’s online health and wellness brands that include Healthline.com, MedicalNewsToday.com and Greatist.com. Healthline acquired Psych Central in August last year.

McCray joins Healthline Media from the leading non-partisan publisher of tax information Tax Notes, where she was an Editor-in-Chief. An attorney with a degree from Howard University School of Law, McCray was a disability lawyer for the Social Security Administration from 2009-19. While lawyering, she moonlighted for two years as Associate TV Editor and Culture Writer at the online multimedia publisher Black Girl Nerds. She has maintained a steady freelance writing career contributing to such publications as the Huffington Post, Parade, and AARP Magazine. In addition, in 2016 she founded Weemagine, an online magazine dedicated to celebrating and inspiring excellence in children of color. She was Weemagine’s Editor-in-Chief for four years.

“I’ve always been a writer first,” McCray says. “It took some time to pivot from a passionate hobby to a career but all of my experiences led me to this moment.”

Joining Healthline Media to build its Psych Central brand is a challenge McCray eagerly embraces.

“I pursued Healthline because it’s a purpose-driven company that provides evidence-based information for people to make the best decisions about their health and wellbeing.

“Also, we mutually value truth and honesty in journalism,” McCray says.

PsychCentral.com is one of the most trusted sites about psychology and mental health issues. Its content is needed now more than ever, according to McCray:

“We are living in very tough times. In my parents’ day, people tried to power through to avoid admitting mental health concerns. Thankfully, now we have the tools and resources to leave that generational stigma behind us. We have the ability to heal.”

A native of Queens, New York, McCray earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Binghamton University and is completing her Master of Arts in writing at Johns Hopkins University.” She lives in the Washington, D.C., area with her husband of 15 years and three sons, aged 13, 10 and 4. Like all of Healthline Media, she will work in her home office at least through the end of the year. McCray reports to Vice President of Content and Brand Strategy Dria Barnes and manages a team of five editors.
